How FoodSavr works
The loop is short: capture groceries, see what expires, cook from the pantry. Most of the work is the first photo after you get home.
1. Capture what you bought
After shopping, add items with a receipt photo, a photo of the groceries, a barcode scan, or voice in English or Tamil. FoodSavr logs names, quantities, categories, and predicted expiry dates so you do not type a spreadsheet.
2. See what expires soon
The home screen surfaces items approaching expiry with color-coded urgency. Optional weekly email summaries list what to use in the next seven days. On supported devices, a widget shows the same glance without opening the app.
3. Ask Sous Chef what to cook
Sous Chef AI suggests recipes from your inventory and prioritizes items expiring within about three days. Each idea shows what you already have versus what to add to a grocery list.
4. Cook and mark what you used
After dinner, mark consumption (quarter, half, three-quarters, or gone). That keeps the inventory honest for the next shop and the next Sous Chef suggestion.
Why the order matters
A shopping list alone does not stop waste. A pantry list without expiry still hides the yogurt at the back. A recipe app that ignores inventory asks you to shop again. FoodSavr keeps capture, expiry, and dinner on one account. More on the category split: grocery tracker vs pantry app. Definition: What is FoodSavr?
