If you use Android and want FoodSavr before it is in everyone’s Play Store feed, open testing is the path. From March 25, 2026, you can join our tester group, opt in on Google Play, and install the FoodSavr Android app on the testing track. You will get new builds and features as we ship them—delivered through Google Play like normal app updates, so you are not sideloading APKs or managing files by hand.
This post explains why open testing exists, what you gain as a tester, and how updates reach your phone. For the exact clicks and links, use our Android testing onboarding page—it mirrors the three steps below with buttons and extra context.
What is Google Play open testing?
Open testing is an official Google Play program for pre-release apps. Developers publish versions to a test track; users who join the program install and update the app from the Play Store, the same place you get production apps. When we release a new build to open testing, testers on that track are offered an update—often within a few hours, depending on Google’s rollout timing.
It is built for feedback at scale: you see real features in real kitchens, and we learn what to fix before a wider launch. Google’s documentation describes open, closed, and internal tests; FoodSavr uses open testing so eligible users can opt in with a clear process rather than a private invite-only list.
Why join the FoodSavr testing group?
Latest features first
Receipt scanning, bulk photo capture, barcode entry, voice where available, expiry reminders, and the AI Sous Chef all evolve quickly during alpha. Testers see those changes as soon as we push them to the open track.
Your feedback shapes the product
Rough edges matter: confusing flows, missing labels, or performance on older devices. We read reports on the feedback board and community channels so we can prioritize fixes.
You still use Google Play
Install, updates, and uninstall behave like any other Play app you trust. That keeps security and update mechanics familiar.

How to join (three steps)
The short version:
1. Join the FoodSavr tester Google Group — request access so we can share announcements and you stay in the loop with other testers. 2. Opt in on Google Play — accept the open testing program for FoodSavr so your Google account is allowed to install the test-track build. 3. Install or update from the Play Store listing — once you are in the group and opted in, open the Play listing and install FoodSavr (or update if you already installed a test build).
Every link and button lives on foodsavr.ca/android-testing. Follow that page on your phone or desktop so you do not miss the correct Group URL or opt-in link.
How you get the latest builds and features
After you are on the open testing track, Google Play notifies you when a new version is available, the same way it does for production apps. We recommend leaving automatic updates on for FoodSavr in the Play Store so you do not have to watch for every release manually.
When we publish a new open-testing release, it can take a short time to propagate to all devices; that delay is normal. You do not need to re-download the app from email or the web each time—stay on the testing track and accept updates.
What to expect from an alpha
Open testing is still early access. You may see bugs, UI tweaks between versions, or features that change based on feedback. The web app at app.foodsavr.ca remains a stable option if you need something for the whole household while Android catches up on a specific device.

Is this the same as the FoodSaver vacuum sealer brand?
No. FoodSavr is our grocery and meal-planning app. If the name sounded familiar for a different reason, read FoodSavr vs FoodSaver.
I use iOS or web only—do I need this?
No. Open testing is for Android through Google Play. The web app is already live; iOS remains on our public roadmap. Sign up for waitlist and news if you want email when platforms change.
